Following a change in the main event, the UFC will welcome 2023 with a light heavyweight bout on January 14. Rising star Nassourdine Imavov now faces Sean Strickland. Strickland replaces former Ultimate Fighter winner Kelvin Gastelum, who, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, withdrew due to a mouth injury. UFC Vegas 67 takes place inside the UFC APEX Center in Las Vegas.
Missing his pro debut in 2016, Imavov has competed for promotions all over the world. A Thunderstruck Fight League welterweight champion, Imavov joined the UFC in 2020. He is 4-1 with the promotion and is riding a three-fight win streak.
The 26-year-old’s last fight was a unanimous decision victory against Joaquin Buckley in September.
Strickland made his professional debut in 2008. A King of the Cage Middleweight Champion, Strickland defended the belt five times. He joined the UFC in 2014. At 12-4 in the promotion, Strickland had his six-fight win streak cut short by Alex Pereira, who would go on to defeat Israel Adesanya for the UFC middleweight title.
This is the second event in a row that Strickland is the main event. Strickland’s last fight was in December, on the UFC’s last card of 2022. He lost to Jared Cannonier via split decision.
