After one of the biggest upsets in MMA history, Kamaru Usman is out for revenge. The former UFC welterweight champion wants to regain his place at the top of his game at the expense of his longtime rival, Leon Edwards .
Edwards’ UFC welterweight title trilogy bout will take place at London’s O2 Arena on March 18.
Edwards made his professional debut in 2011; he was the BAMMA company welterweight champion . He joined the UFC in 2014 and fell to Claudio Silva in his debut. After that loss, Edwards went 12-1 with a no-contest . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and match postponements, Edwards did not compete from August 2019 until March 2021, when he faced Belal Muhammad: he was a no-contester.
He returned to action in June 2021, when he defeated the legendary Nate Diaz .
Usman, a 2010 NCAA Division II national champion , turned professional in 2012. Winner of Ultimate Fighter 21 in 2015, Usman won nine straight bouts before beating Tyron Woodley for the UFC welterweight title in 2019. He successfully defended the scepter five times; his last successful defense was a rematch against Colby Covington in 2021.
The Sporting News presents all the details to enjoy the action in London.
