Can CM Punk regain the AEW Heavyweight Title at All Out?

AEW All Out 2022 was one of the most memorable pay-per-views in wrestling, as it marked the dawn of a new era for Tony Khan’s thriving promotion. With the long-awaited return of CM Punk to the ring and the shocking debuts of Adam Cole and Bryan Danielson, All Out 2021 was passed off as a huge success for AEW. A year later, AEW presents All Out 2022 on Sunday with perhaps its biggest main event as Jon Moxley defends the heavyweight title against Punk from NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, just outside Chicago.

Punk is the company’s most illustrious fairy and retained the AEW Heavyweight title by defeating Adam Page at the Double or Nothing event in May. Less than a week after capturing her belt, Punk announced that she would be undergoing foot surgery and that she would be effectively out indefinitely. She created a working title for herself when Moxley defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi at Forbidden Door in June. Moxley made a couple of successful title defenses, most recently against Chris Jericho in August. Moxley won the match, and then Punk triumphantly returned to face Moxley to close out the August 10 stamp of Dynamite.

Punk and Moxley went toe-to-toe at Dynamite on August 24, with the latter tearing through the former in just over three minutes to become the undisputed champion, the story being that Punk was still too shaky to keep up. Wednesday on Dynamite, Moxley had a free pass to defend the strap against anyone on Sunday. Ace Steel, an archaic punk friend and AEW official, stormed into the ring and pummeled him. The Chicago native cut an impassioned promo about losing the belt. Steel got out and lit a fire under his friend. Punk signed the deal and headlining All Out was made official.

Can Punk claim the title in front of his hometown fans? Or is Moxley crashing the party?
